Reopening of Day Care OPD
After overcoming a prolonged strike, we renovated and reopened our Day Care OPD, offering affordable healthcare services.

Transforming Lives Through Accessible Healthcare
In the year 1945-46 this Institution commenced its operations with Medical Mobile dispensaries which were put on the roads to render medical help and assistance, absolutely free of charge, to people at their doorstep. These medical mobile units were fully equipped with medicines, injections, medical instruments etc. A qualified Medical Officer, a compounder and a driver who also served as a helper manned each unit. Over the years we had a fleet of 32 mobile dispensaries serving over 120 localities every week throughout Greater Mumbai at scheduled times. BMC partly contributed for its expenses.
In appreciation of the medical services thus rendered for almost over a decade the corporation made available to the Institution a spacious plot of land at Worli wherein a single storey building was erected. On completion of the building in 1962 and simultaneously receiving a generous donation along with sophisticated medical instruments and equipment's from West Germany, we were able to start this present MedicaI Diagnostic Centre, complementing the already existing medical mobile dispensaries.
Initially 14 departments were commenced wherein Diagnostic and Out Patient Departments rendered services from 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM on all days except Sundays and Bank holidays. Qualified and dedicated Honoraries devoted their time, energy and expertise for the benefit of the patients.
Appreciating the good work, the Institution received donations in cash and kind not only from India but also from abroad. The Diagnostic Centre has been providing investigations and treatment under one roof at a nominal cost and only to cover out of pocket expenses. Deserving cases are offered treatment free of cost.
We are proud to state that we are not only patronized by the poor but also by Limited companies and Corporations. We have also been the pioneers in introducing the Complete Check Up Schemes
On 29th June, 1999 we commenced the Haemodialysis Department with a kind and generous donation of one COBE dialysis machine from Smt. Charoo and Shishir Manubhai Doctor and the second from an anonymous donor
As desired by the Donor, the department was named after our ex-committee member the late Smt. Kusumben Manubhai Doctor and was inaugurated by Shri Manubhai M. Doctor our Founder member and Hon.General Secretary since inception.
On 24th November, 2001 Dr. Jeson R. Doctor one of our committee members was kind enough to donate a Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant for the Haemodialysis Department which would immensely benefit the patients. As desired by the donor the RO Plant has been named after his mother Dr. (Mrs) Vishakha R. Doctor our ex-committee member.
The Dialysis Department has been quite popular since its inception. In order to benefit the dialysis patients, the charges per dialysis has been dropped from Rs. 1200/- to Rs. 400/- only for the deserving. At present, we are running 17 machines - 3 shifts a day for 6 days in a week. Shree Mahalakshmi Temple Trust has been contributing Rs. 100/- per dialysis since May, 2009.
The Ophthalmic Operation Theatre was commenced on 30th March, 2006 with the kind donation of Rs. 20 lacs from Shree Mahalakshmi Temple Trust. We are proud to state that our Ophthalmic Operation Theatre is one of the best in the city of Mumbai. We are indeed very thankful to all the donors for their contribution for a worthy cause.
The Dental Dept. has been equipped with a new Dental Chair, new Compressor, suction machine and Dental X-Ray Machine by the donation received from the family of Late Mr. Manubhai M. Doctor our Founder Member and Hon. Gen. Secretary of People's Mobile Hospitals.
The Physiotherapy Department was upgraded with purchase of new equipment in December-2007 as also in the Pathology Department a new Blood Cell Counter, Chemistry Analyser and Serum Electrolytes machines were purchased with the kind donation of Shri G. P. Patel and family and Shree Mahalakshmi Temple Charities.
Our Institute has been honoured by our ex. Committee member the Late Mr. P. M. Vijaykar who has bequeathed his property at Matunga in favour of People's Mobile Hospitals. The same has been recorded in the Office of the Charity Commissioner.
North Bombay Jaycees through the good officers of Mr. Ashok Bhai Parikh have voluntarily donated 6 Fresenius Dialysis machines to our Dialysis Department. The Progressive Ladies Welfare Society has been distributing Rice and Dal every month to deserving patients in the Dialysis Department since November, 2016. Rotary Club of Bombay Central have been contributing Rs. 10000/- per month for the treatment of Dialysis patients. Inner Wheel Club of Nariman Point has been donating Rs. 5000/- per month towards treatment of Dialysis patients.
We graciously acknowledge the honorary services offered by Architect Mr. Rajiv C. Shroff and his team from Interics who have guided us at every step in designing the New Dialysis Department.
During the Pandemic the Institution was not functional except for the Dialysis department which offered it's services in full swing from 23rd March 2020 to 07th June 2020. We are grateful to the staff and doctors for their co-operation. The staff of the Institution were fully compensated for that period.
